Baseline Health: Establishing Your Leadership Readiness Standard

Have you fallen into the trap of normalizing fatigue?

How about tension?

Oh, and throw in brain fog, short patience, disrupted sleep, aches, and pains while you’re at it.

Mind you, this is a short list of ways I’ve seen leaders fundamentally redefining “healthiness” - partly because any other better alternative is, in some capacity, too far-fetched. 

In the Navy, we may sometimes operate this way, but the GOAL is always to ensure maximum operability to fulfill the mission and bring the crew home safely. 

All of that starts with system checks - answering the question, “how is it going?” 

As a fitness trainer, helping you understand your starting point will inform where we go and how we get to your health goals. 

As an engineer, validating performance under baseline conditions is essential before undertaking any other system modifications. 

Knowing where you are as a leader is all the same. 

So for this, I present the Peace Index - a simple, fast tool to gauge your general reference point, as often as you want to use it.


It gives you and us a pulse of how you are doing right now, in the midst of a chaotic world. 

We are going to assess- subjectively, rather than guess. Identify first, rather than rush to fixing.

WEEKLY CHALLENGE:

For each “P”, rate your peace from 1-100.

Purpose: Fulfilling your soul

Place: Current environments (home, work, other…)

People: Those around you

Provision: What you need for today

Physical Health (mind, body, spirit):

Now add each and divide by 100. This is your Peace Index out of 100.

REFLECTION:

Which area of your life, as just assessed, needs some attention?
